Since the start of the tick activity season in the Nizhny Novgorod region, 7,494 people, including 2,201 children, have sought medical help. These figures are provided by the regional Rospotrebnadzor department as of July 31, 2025.
Tick bites have been recorded in 49 municipalities of the region, as well as in eight districts of Nizhny Novgorod.
Among the places where bites occur most frequently are garden and vegetable plots, accounting for 22% of all appeals. The same number of cases has been registered in rural areas.
Eighteen percent of bites happened in forests, 16% in residential yards. An additional 3% of cases were recorded in cemeteries, parks, and squares. Separate incidents occurred on beaches, in sanatoriums, and other public places.
Studies show that 0.3% of ticks in the region are infected with tick-borne encephalitis virus. Meanwhile, 15.7% carry borrelia, 1.5% — anaplasmas, and 0.4% — ehrlichiae.
Since the beginning of the year, 81 cases of ixodid tick-borne borreliosis have been detected in the region, five of which are children.
As part of tick-borne encephalitis prevention, 9,208 people have been vaccinated, including 1,335 children. Experts continue to emphasize the importance of vaccination and protective measures when visiting natural areas.
It was previously reported which districts in the Nizhny Novgorod region are most frequently attacked by ticks.
