Gleb Nikitin reported an increase in the number of Nizhny Novgorod residents who regularly engage in sports.

      The sports participation rate among residents of the Nizhny Novgorod Region who engage in physical culture and sports routinely has reached 60%. This was announced by Governor Gleb Nikitin during his report to the region's Legislative Assembly deputies on July 31, 2025.

      He noted that in recent years, interest in sports has been steadily increasing, as confirmed by the figures. Over the past five years, more than 56,000 people have attended sports clubs annually. Additionally, the region has established over 700 children’s sports teams.

      The governor also recalled the successes of Nizhny Novgorod Paralympians at the XVII Summer Paralympic Games in Paris in 2024, where athletes from the region won five medals. In the same year, the regional "Parus" center began operating in Dzerzhinsk — a modern venue for training and rehabilitation, including for veterans of the Special Military Operation.

      "Overall, in 2024, our athletes won 459 medals at international competitions and nearly 5,500 awards at the national level. About 1,300 official sports events across more than 100 sports were held in the region," said Gleb Nikitin.

      He also emphasized that developing sports infrastructure remains among the priorities.

      In 2024, 18 new sports facilities were built in the Nizhny Novgorod Region, and four others underwent major renovations. One of the key projects was the construction of an ice palace on the Strobelka embankment in Nizhny Novgorod. According to the governor, its readiness now stands at 93%.

      "After completion, the arena will become an important element of the modern development of the Strobelka area," concluded Gleb Nikitin.
