Gleb Nikitin: "The proportion of citizens who regularly engage in physical culture and sports has reached 60 percent."

      The share of citizens in the Nizhny Novgorod region who actively engage in physical culture and sports has reached 60 percent. This was announced by Governor Gleb Nikitin during his report to the regional Legislative Assembly deputies on July 31, 2025.

      "Overall, the activity of residents of Nizhny Novgorod cannot but be pleasing. The proportion of citizens regularly involved in physical culture and sports continues to grow and has reached 60 percent. Over the past five years, more than 56,000 people have attended sports sections annually. Additionally, more than 700 children's sports teams have been established," Gleb Nikitin stated.

      He also highlighted the victories of Nizhny Novgorod athletes at the XVII Summer Paralympic Games 2024 in Paris, where residents of the region won five medals. In 2024, the regional «Parus» rehabilitation center was opened in Dzerzhinsk for athletes with disabilities, where war veterans also undergo rehabilitation.

      "In 2024, Nizhny Novgorod athletes secured a total of 459 medals at international competitions and almost five and a half thousand medals at national events. Last year, about 1,300 official sporting events were held in the region across more than 100 sports," the governor added.

      He emphasized the importance of creating new sports facilities.

      "In order to make sports even more accessible, we continue to introduce new sports objects. Last year, 18 new facilities were opened. Besides these, four more were fully renovated. The construction of the Ice Palace at the Stroka in Nizhny Novgorod is nearing completion. The current construction readiness stands at 93 percent. After the arena is put into operation, the final look of Stroka in its modern form will be shaped," Gleb Nikitin summarized.
