      The State Labor Inspection in the Nizhny Novgorod region provided details of a group accident involving workers from the Sechenevsky branch of JSC "NOKK" during sewer well cleaning work.

      According to the management, around 8:00 AM on July 31, a team of five gathered at boiler house No. 5 after an electric-gas welder reported sewage overflow on Ivan Zaikin Street. The workers decided to fix the problem themselves.

      At approximately 9:00 AM, cleaning work of the well began. After completing it, the employees moved away from the site, but soon one of them — a boiler house equipment repair locksmith — descended into the well again for unknown reasons. Returning colleagues found him motionless, bent over, face down.

      One worker then descended into the well to rescue the victim. However, he soon felt unwell himself. An electric-gas welder went to assist him and managed to lift the second man to the surface. He also soon began to feel weak, and colleagues had to help him as well. Using a tow rope, the team leader and the driver pulled him out. The locksmith who was the first to enter the well was still inside, aware of the gas poisoning danger. The workers attempted to lift their colleague out using improvised means, while the driver supplied fresh air via a vacuum truck.

      Rescue services from the EMERCOM managed to extract the emergency recovery locksmith, who was hospitalized and later died in hospital.

      The second victim — the boiler house equipment repair locksmith — was taken to Sechenov Central District Hospital, where an assessment of his condition's severity is expected. The electric-gas welder was also hospitalized but declined medical assistance.

      An investigation has been initiated into the incident. As Ilya Moshes, the Chief State Labor Inspector in the Nizhny Novgorod region, stated, a legal assessment of all participants' actions will be conducted, and those responsible for labor safety violations will face administrative penalties.

      It was previously reported that an operator at a Nizhny Novgorod manufacturing plant had his hand amputated due to a workplace accident.
