Gorky Automotive Plant shifts to a four-day workweek

      Gorky Automobile Plant will temporarily switch to a four-day workweek starting August 2025. This decision is due to a sharp decline in sales volumes in the commercial vehicle market, NIА "Nizhny Novgorod" reported from the company's press service.

      From July 21 to August 3, GAZ employees are on their annual corporate vacation with full pay. During this period, modernization work continues at the plant: equipment undergoes servicing, and new robotic complexes are being installed in the welding and painting shops.

      After the vacation, the plant will adopt a reduced work schedule. According to company representatives, this measure will help preserve jobs, adapt production capacities to current market conditions, and ensure uniform workload across workshops.

      As clarified by the press service, the decline in demand for commercial vehicles is linked to the high key rate set by the Central Bank and limited access to financial tools for purchasing vehicles.

      Amid these changes, cost optimization has been underway at the plant since the beginning of the year. All social guarantees and benefits for workers are maintained in full.

      Employees have already been notified that the four-day schedule may be extended. Starting in September, the work regime will be determined monthly depending on market conditions. If economic conditions improve, the company will return to the previous five-day schedule.
