Voting to choose the "people's" name for the new retro train has begun on the Gorky Railway.

      On July 24, 2025, at 09:54 [129], Society The Gorky Railway launched a project to choose a "people's" name for the new steam-powered retro train in anticipation of Railway Workers' Day. The train, headed by the 9П№18430 locomotive, has been running on the Nizhny Novgorod-Moskovsky – Nizhny Novgorod-Sortirovochny route since the end of June. From July 15 to 23, anyone could suggest a name in the official Gorky Railway group on VK and briefly explain why the retro train should receive that name. An expert committee selected 7 options for final voting, which is taking place on the Telegram channel "Pro GЖД":

      - Gorky Resident;

      - Dolgoruky;

      - Smoke;

      - Prince Pozharsky;

      - Minin;

      - Murza;

      - Yuri Vsevolodovich.

      The final vote will run until July 31, with results announced before Railway Workers' Day on August 1. The author of the winning option will receive commemorative prizes from the Gorky Railway. Additionally, the 9П№18430 locomotive was built in 1951 by the Murom Dzerzhinsky Plant. It spent nearly three decades— from 1996 to 2024— at the "Russian Locomotives" open-air exhibit, before being transferred last year to a depot for major repairs. With a maximum power of 320 hp, a top speed of 35 km/h, and weighing over 55 tons, steam locomotives were indispensable for shunting operations on the steel mainlines and industrial areas, performing a wide range of tasks.
