Forty-five campers from the second shift of the military-patriotic camp "I Want to Become a Paratrooper" made an independent parachute jump at the Nizhny Novgorod P.I. Baranov Aero Club of DOSAAF Russia, after three weeks of preparation.
The young paratroopers, aged 14 to 17, jumped from heights of 900–1000 meters.
This was reported by the Social Policy Department of the Nizhny Novgorod city administration.
According to Galina Gurenko, director of the city’s Department of Social Policy, it is symbolic that the kids experienced a jump during the Year of the Defender of the Fatherland.
"Our campers trained for this event throughout the entire session under the careful guidance of experienced military specialists, mastering skills such as the safe handling of paratrooper parachutes, packing and using safety devices, as well as proper group formation for the jump.
Additionally, the children completed an introductory course in basic military training, engaged in physical fitness activities, and studied hand-to-hand combat techniques.
Undoubtedly, all the skills acquired require further development and refinement. They can hone them year-round at the Maksim Nasten Military-Patriotic Center," Gurenko emphasized, noting that three branches of the Center are already open in Nizhny Novgorod with support from Mayor Yuri Shalabaev.
"Parachute jumping is not only a challenge but also an opportunity to showcase oneself. For children, it’s a step into a new life filled with bright emotions and unforgettable experiences. It’s their first independent decision without parental help and a victory over their own fears.
We teach the kids proper parachute packing, landing, and behaviors in the aircraft. They undergo military and airborne training, which helps them overcome fears and develop courage," said Alexander Naydenov, head of the "I Want to Become a Paratrooper" camp.
Before the jump, all trainees passed the test and underwent a medical examination.
"From the stories of the kids, you roughly understand what to expect. You train on harness systems, and think you can do everything. But when you stand at the open hatch of the airplane and look down, your heart beats faster from excitement.
It’s an incredible feeling of freedom and adrenaline!
I really want to join the fourth session and jump again. The sky is my love; I dream of dedicating my life to the airborne troops. I believe girls handle all tasks just as well as boys. Thanks to the camp for this opportunity!" shared Arina Karpova, a camper of the "I Want to Become a Paratrooper" camp.
"I was very worried about my daughter. She waited for this jump all year and prepared for it. Throughout the session, our children were supervised and trained by professionals.
I always support my daughter’s ambitions, and today she experienced incredible emotions!
It’s impossible to put into words," added her mother, Nadezhda Karpova.
It should be noted that the third branch of the Military-Patriotic Center opened in the Avtozavodsky district of Nizhny Novgorod.
Together with the center’s trainees, the city mayor Yuri Shalabaev visited the site.
Earlier, branches of the center had already started operating in the Nizhny Novgorod and Prioksky districts.
