VTB specialists have identified a new scam scheme in which criminals force victims to leave their savings in mailboxes under the pretext of "protecting their savings."
Perpetrators call clients, pretending to be bank employees or law enforcement officers, convincing them of the threat of theft from their accounts and the urgent need to "save" their money. To do this, they demand that the victim place cash in their own mailbox or in a correspondence box at a specific address with an apartment number provided to the victim. After some time, an accomplice courier opens the box and steals the money.
"This is a new variation of the classic 'safe storage' scheme. Criminals have learned to bypass even the vigilance of those who refuse to transfer money to unknown persons. It is important to remember that your money can only be securely stored in the account you physically opened with your bank," emphasized Dmitry Revyakin, Vice President of VTB and Head of the Corporate Interests Protection Department of the Security Department.
To protect yourself from such fraud, never follow instructions to "save" money from unknown individuals. Remember that banks and security agencies never ask to transfer money, especially cash, to secure it.
