Society The State Duma rejected a bill proposing to reduce the working day in hot weather during the plenary session. This was reported by the "360" TV channel.

The initiative suggested that employers should be obliged to shorten the working day at the employee's request: by one hour when temperatures exceed +28.5°C, by two hours at +29°C and above, and by four hours at +30.5°C and above. The bill aimed to protect workers' health and close a legal gap, as current legislation does not contain clear norms regulating this issue.

Currently, employers cannot legally reduce the length of the working day due to heat, which forces them to declare partial-paid idle time. Sanitary standards require maintaining a comfortable temperature at the workplace, but not all companies have the necessary resources for this.

Vice-Speaker of the State Duma Boris Chernyshov emphasized that the proposed measures are aimed at preserving workers' health. He noted that such changes concern only the hottest days and certain regions or cities where temperatures can reach critical levels. According to Chernyshov, reducing the working day during heat can increase work efficiency, reduce the number of sick days and accidents, ultimately contributing to the stability of production processes.

The politician also pointed out that climate change is increasing the frequency and intensity of hot days in Russia, creating serious risks to people's health and lives. Therefore, he said, measures need to be taken to protect workers from adverse weather conditions.

Earlier reports indicated that due to persistent heat, the number of daily outings by watering machines in Nizhny Novgorod had increased.
