Nizhny Novgorod region will present contemporary art in Paris at the exhibition "System Assembly. Nizhny Novgorod."

      The exhibition will bring together the works of 17 artists and tell about the development of the contemporary art scene. From September 11 to November 1, 2026, the exhibition project "System Assembly. Nizhny Novgorod" dedicated to the contemporary art scene of the Nizhny Novgorod region will be presented at the Russian Spiritual and Cultural Orthodox Center (Centre Spirituel et Culturel Orthodoxe Russe) in Paris. The exhibition will feature works by 17 artists who will introduce the foreign audience to the diversity of artistic practices that have emerged in the region. The vernissage will take place on September 10, and the exhibition will open to the public the following day.

      The Paris exhibition will be a new version of the project "System Assembly. Nizhny Novgorod: Chronicle of Blooming Events," initiated by the Moscow gallery of contemporary art "Triumph" and the government of the Nizhny Novgorod region in 2023-2024. Previously, the exhibition was presented in Moscow, Kazan, and Perm. The project in France is being implemented with the support of T-Bank's service for affluent clients – T-Private.

      The Paris exhibition will include selected works by independent artists and resident artists from Nizhny Novgorod institutions: the Futuro gallery, the Terminal A Center for Contemporary Art, the 9B gallery, and the Quiet studio. The works presented, created from 2016 to 2026, cover a wide range of techniques and genres – from painting and graphics to textile objects, ceramics, and installations. The artists address the theme of place and local identity, while simultaneously considering it in the context of contemporary artistic processes. Among the key questions of the exhibition are the interaction of the artist with space, memory, the viewer, and art.

      The exhibition consists of three parts. The first is dedicated to working with the local context and the perception of place; the second addresses street art – one of the most recognizable phenomena of contemporary cultural life in Nizhny Novgorod – and presents an archive of Nizhny Novgorod street art documenting the activities of young artists in recent years, whose practices develop beyond traditional exhibition spaces. The foyer of the center will be the concluding part of the exhibition. A parallel program and mediation will take place as part of the project.

      "System Assembly" is a series of exhibitions by the "Triumph" gallery that focuses on the artistic scenes of different cities in Russia. Through artists and local communities, the project examines the processes that shape the cultural environments of the regions. The assembly aims to attempt to concentrate diverse styles and languages of artistic expressions from one region in one space.

      Participation in the exhibition will allow Russian authors to present their works to an international audience and will contribute to the development of connections between the regional art scene and the global cultural space.

      For the past ten years, the "Triumph" gallery has been collaborating with cultural venues in Russia and representing authors from various regions of the country. Since 2017, it has been actively developing cooperation with artists, galleries, and curators from the Nizhny Novgorod region, supporting projects aimed at the development and popularization of the contemporary art scene in the region.

      Today, Nizhny Novgorod is one of the leading centers of contemporary art in Russia. In recent years, thanks to the development of grant programs, art residencies, large-scale exhibition projects, and international initiatives, a recognizable artistic environment has formed in the region, uniting different directions and practices. The Nizhny Novgorod scene is characterized by a diversity of genres and a close connection with local history, urban environment, and identity.

      The significance of the development of contemporary art in the region has been noted at the federal level: Nizhny Novgorod artists have repeatedly become laureates of professional awards, and projects created in the region have received recognition within Russian cultural competitions. In particular, the International Biennale of Ecological Art, organized jointly with the "Triumph" gallery, was awarded the Russian Creative Awards 2025 in the category of "Creative Event of the Year."
