The number of people infected with tick-borne encephalitis in Nizhny Novgorod has risen to eight.

      September 3, 2026 17:10 Society In the Nizhny Novgorod region, the number of cases of tick-borne viral encephalitis has increased to eight. This is evidenced by data from the regional office of Rospotrebnadzor. A week earlier, the report mentioned seven cases. The agency clarified that all the patients, including two children under the age of 14, did not seek medical assistance for emergency prevention of tick-borne viral encephalitis. Additionally, the region registered 92 cases of ixodid tick-borne borreliosis, including four children under 14 years old. Since the beginning of the year, 7,305 people, including 2,036 children, have sought medical help after tick bites. This is 9% lower than the average long-term level. Emergency prevention with anti-tick immunoglobulin was administered to 1,126 people, of whom 1,082 were children. During this period, 9,360 ticks were examined in the region, of which 8,998 were removed from people. Positive results were found in 1,850 cases, or 19.7%. This included 14 ticks infected with the tick-borne encephalitis virus. Earlier, an infectious disease specialist explained how one can contract tick-borne encephalitis besides a tick bite.
