      September 4, 2026 09:14 Society During a preventive examination, doctors at the 30th clinic in Nizhny Novgorod discovered an unusual nevus in a patient. The formation immediately raised concerns, so the patient was referred for additional consultation with an oncologist, reported the chief editor of MIA "Statsionar-Press," Alexey Nikонов. The mole was removed at the Research Institute of Clinical Oncology. According to biopsy results, it turned out to be an extremely rare skin tumor - pigmented epithelioid melanocytoma. Only a few hundred such cases have been documented worldwide. Melanocytoma most commonly occurs in children, adolescents, and young people aged 20-27, but it can develop in individuals of any race. Although this tumor is not among the most dangerous, it is important to detect and remove it as early as possible.
