Students of the Presidential Academy honored the memory of the victims of the terrorist attacks in Beslan and Starobelsk.

      On September 4, 2026, at 09:37, Society In honor of the Day of Solidarity in the Fight Against Terrorism, a memorial event dedicated to the tragic events in Beslan and Starobelsk was held at the Nizhny Novgorod Institute of Management of the Presidential Academy. It is on September 3 that Russia remembers the victims of terrorist acts. This date was established in memory of the tragedy that occurred from September 1 to 3, 2004, in Beslan. At that time, terrorists attacked schoolchildren, their parents, and teachers during a festive line dedicated to Knowledge Day and held hostages for three days. As a result of the horrific terrorist attack, more than 300 people died, most of whom were children. However, on this day, all victims of terrorist acts that occurred in our country and beyond are remembered. First-year students of the Nizhny Novgorod Institute gathered to pay tribute not only to the victims of the Beslan tragedy but also to those who died as a result of the recent terrorist attack in Starobelsk. On May 22, 2026, 16 drones of the Armed Forces of Ukraine attacked the dormitory of the Starobelsk Pedagogical College. As a result of the attack, 21 people died, and dozens were injured. The event began with a minute of silence, where the students honored the memory of all who perished at the hands of terrorists. Then, a documentary film by the RT channel titled "Starobelsk. Children Should Not Die," dedicated to those tragic events, was shown to the students. "Days like today make us stop and think about how fragile the world around us is. We have no right to allow such tragedies to happen again. Our duty is to remember them and do everything possible so that future generations know the value of human life. And our task as educators is not just to impart knowledge but also to instill in students respect for life, a sense of responsibility, and readiness to defend peace. The tragedies of Beslan and Starobelsk are not just pages of history; they are lessons we must learn," noted the director of the Nizhny Novgorod Institute of Management of the Presidential Academy, Ekaterina Lebedeva. After the film screening, the chairman of the Nizhny Novgorod City Duma, Evgeny Chintsov, a former participant in the special military operation and counter-terrorism operations in the North Caucasus, spoke to the students. He paid special attention to security issues in the modern digital world, warned students against fraudulent actions, urged them to develop critical thinking, and not to trust all the information they encounter on the internet. In any suspicious situation, the chairman of the City Duma advised the students to immediately seek help from competent authorities. "Today we honored the memory of the victims of terrorist attacks - we remembered the tragedy in Beslan and the events in Starobelsk. As someone who, by the nature of my work, has seen how information warfare operates, I want to say the main thing: lies and fear are also a battlefield, and it is impossible to remain on the sidelines. When unverified information spreads - whether it works for terrorists or simply sows panic - the result is the same: people lose their bearings. Therefore, check the facts, trust only official sources, and do not become - even inadvertently - a transmitter of someone else's benefit. This is not just caution; it is a matter of preserving our country," emphasized the chairman of the City Duma, Evgeny Chintsov. The details of the horrific tragedy left no one indifferent. What they saw made a deep impression on the students. First-year economics student at the Nizhny Novgorod Institute of Management, Arina Zhabbara, shared her emotions: "Events like today, when we were shown this film, are very important for our generation. They need to be shown to students, children, and adults - so that we remember, so that we understand the price of peace. So that we realize the value of life and do not forget that such things can really happen." Also on this day, an exhibition of modern firearms from Russia, trophy equipment, graphic works, and stands dedicated to the feats of Russian servicemen was organized at the Nizhny Novgorod Institute of Management. Similar events aimed at patriotic education, preserving historical memory, and fostering an active civic position among youth are regularly held at the Nizhny Novgorod Institute of Management of the Presidential Academy.
