The People's Local History Museum has opened in Tonkin.

      In the working settlement of Tonkino in the Nizhny Novgorod region, the People's Local History Museum has opened after renovations and the purchase of new equipment. The work was carried out as part of the national project "Family," reported the regional Ministry of Culture. The museum was established in 1973, has been located in the House of Culture building since 1981, and has held the title of "People's" since 1993. In 2025, a major renovation was conducted in the museum's premises. Approximately 14 million rubles were allocated from the federal budget for this purpose. The walls, ceilings, and floors were repaired, new doors were installed, and communications were replaced. Additionally, a major renovation of the roof and facade of the building was carried out with funds from the regional and local budgets totaling 11.5 million rubles. According to the Minister of Culture of the Nizhny Novgorod region, Natalia Sukhanova, the update of the district local history museum marks a new stage in the modernization of Tonkino's infrastructure, which is being carried out in preparation for the settlement's 300th anniversary. She also noted that last year the major renovation of the museum's premises was completed, and this year the exhibition was updated. During the renovation, the museum was closed to visitors; however, the staff continued their work: with the support of the Presidential Fund for Cultural Initiatives, a festival of Old Believer culture was held, during which a thematic location "Old Believer's Hut" was created in the museum. In 2026, as part of the national project, interactive panels and multimedia stations, a set of models, shelves, costume storage equipment, and showcases for thematic exhibitions "Archaeology and Paleontology," "Nature and Fauna," "History of the Tonkino District," and other equipment were purchased to accommodate more than 5,000 museum items. More than 20 million rubles were allocated from the federal budget for these purposes. As reported by the director of the People's Local History Museum in Tonkino, Irina Yashina, the re-equipment allowed for the organization of the collection, division of the exhibition into thematic zones, and improvement of the storage conditions for exhibits. According to her, the museum also replaced stands with multimedia stations that allow for the placement of text, photo, and video materials. The institution's upcoming plans include recording the memories of the last World War II veteran in the area, expanding the number of events for children and adults, and working with the families of participants in the special military operation. Since 2025, at the instruction of the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, cultural activities have been included in the federal project "Family Values and Cultural Infrastructure" of the national project "Family." These include activities for re-equipping cinemas, municipal libraries, regional and municipal theaters and museums, as well as "Pushkin Card" events. The national project "Family" aims to support and develop family values and create comfortable conditions for forming healthy and happy families.
