The reasons for the absence of extended hours in a number of Nizhny Novgorod schools have been named.

This was stated by the Deputy Minister of Education of the region, Maria Chernikova, at a press conference on August 11, reports NIA "Nizhny Novgorod" correspondent. According to Chernikova, the development of the extended day group system is one of the federal tasks aimed at supporting young families. The extended day program allows parents to work while their children are supervised after classes. In most municipalities of the Nizhny Novgorod region, such groups are already functioning. In Nizhny Novgorod, their development is hindered by two main problems - a lack of facilities and teaching staff. It is most challenging to organize extended day programs in schools that operate in two full shifts. In such institutions, there are often no available classrooms where children could stay after classes. New schools with larger spaces, as well as educational institutions with available facilities, have more opportunities to open extended day groups. Another issue is the high workload on teachers. To address the staffing issue, collaboration is underway with Minin University and the education workers' union; however, it has not yet been possible to fully meet the demand for specialists. Schools pay special attention to first graders, for whom extended day groups are most in demand. In the first grade, a staggered learning schedule is in place: first, children attend three lessons lasting 30 minutes with a dynamic break, then four lessons. Due to the short school day, there is a need to organize children's stay at school after classes. According to Maria Chernikova, where conditions allow, schools strive to open extended day groups primarily for first graders.
