Retail and industry showed growth in the Nizhny Novgorod region.

August 12, 2026 07:39 Economy The economy of the Nizhny Novgorod region continues to develop under challenging conditions, although the influence of external and internal factors has led to a slowdown in growth rates. This was reported by the NIA "Nizhny Novgorod" from the Ministry of Economic Development and Investments of the region. One of the main drivers of economic activity remains the consumer sector. In January-June 2026, retail trade turnover at comparable prices increased by 5.6% compared to the same period in 2025, while the volume of paid services increased by 3.6%. As a result of the first half of the year, the region's industry managed to reach last year's level. The industrial production index was 100.2%. However, the situation in specific industries is uneven. The most noticeable growth was recorded in the production of finished metal products, where the indicator increased by 28.3%. The chemical industry added 12.9%, and the food industry grew by 5.7%. At the same time, the ministry noted that a decline persists in several key sectors. A decrease was recorded in the automotive industry, metallurgy, and oil refining. Positive dynamics were noted in agriculture. According to the results of January-June, the volume of agricultural production increased by 2.5% at comparable prices compared to the corresponding period last year. The department added that ongoing difficulties for businesses were noted. In particular, the cautious reduction of the key rate has not yet created conditions for reviving investment activity. According to the ministry's assessment, by the end of six months in 2026, the economy of the Nizhny Novgorod region is likely to remain in the "zero" zone in 2026-2027. It was previously reported that agricultural enterprises in the Nizhny Novgorod region doubled the volume of product supplies abroad. It was also reported that since the beginning of the year, the region's public debt has decreased by 12 billion rubles. NIA "Nizhny Novgorod" has channels on Telegram and MAX.
