36 people have died in traffic accidents on Nizhny Novgorod roads since the beginning of summer.

      July 14, 2026 13:17 Incidents In the first month and a half of summer 2026, more than 560 traffic accidents occurred in the Nizhny Novgorod region. This is reported by IA "NTA-Volga" with reference to the regional State Traffic Safety Inspectorate. From June 1 to July 10, 562 accidents were registered in the region. In these, 36 people died, and another 703 were injured to varying degrees. Among these incidents, 40 were mass accidents involving three or more vehicles. The State Traffic Safety Inspectorate notes that the main causes of traffic accidents continue to be violations of traffic rules by drivers. Most often, accidents occurred due to speeding—90 cases were recorded. Another 61 accidents were related to drivers choosing a speed inappropriate for road conditions. Other common causes included improper distance between vehicles (55), violation of the right of way (74), and non-compliance with road signs (34). Additionally, since the beginning of summer, there have been 46 accidents in the region involving drivers who were behind the wheel while intoxicated or refused to undergo a medical examination. The State Traffic Safety Inspectorate urged residents to pay attention to dangerous behavior by motorists and report such cases by calling 112.
