No complaints about her health: what is known about the student from NNGU who died in Egypt
On July 7, 2026, 16:11 Society A 19-year-old student from NNGU, Regina Shutenkova, who passed away in Egypt, felt great before her vacation flight. According to her relatives, there were no reasons for concern about her - recent tests were perfect. They shared this in an interview with "KP - Nizhny Novgorod." Regina flew to Hurghada with her mother at the end of June. The vacation was going smoothly. The tragedy occurred a day before their flight home. After spending a few days by the sea, the girl felt unwell in a beach restroom, suddenly collapsed, and her heart stopped. The student was taken to a local hospital, where she fell into a coma. She never regained consciousness. The girl moved to study in Nizhny Novgorod from the Belgorod region. She had completed her second year at the state university.
"Regina and I were in the same group. In less than a month, we formed a company of seven girls, and in two years, there was not a single quarrel. They usually say that such friendship is impossible, but we are an exception," said her friend Polina.
Her loved ones remember her as a bright and responsive person who always came to help and never showed weakness. She managed to combine studying, sports, and socializing with friends. Another friend, Ekaterina, noted that Regina was characterized by inexhaustible optimism and loved animals, especially dogs. According to them, the girl had no serious health problems.
"She took tests, and they were impeccable. You could fly to space," added Polina.
The cause of the tragedy is unclear. In the hospital where Regina was taken, doctors diagnosed her with a deep coma, a condition after cardiac arrest, acute gastroenteritis with significant electrolyte imbalance - severe hypokalemia, as well as aspiration pneumonia. Throughout this time, the patient's condition was assessed as steadily severe. The only chance was said to be an urgent transfer to a specialized clinic in Russia. This required a sanitary flight with a resuscitation team. The cost of transportation was estimated at a minimum of 8 million rubles. Friends and the girl's boyfriend announced a fundraising campaign and appealed to those willing to help. In a few days, they managed to raise about 500 thousand rubles. On July 2, Egyptian doctors allowed the flight on the condition of full payment, but they did not manage to collect the necessary amount in time. On July 6, Regina died without regaining consciousness. The family is now deciding on the return of the body to their homeland. The girl is planned to be transported from Egypt to Moscow, and then to Belgorod, where her parents live. Repatriation and burial require significant funds. Her loved ones hope that after returning to Russia, specialists will be able to determine the exact cause of what happened. Earlier, a specialist listed the main health hazards during vacations in Egypt. NIA "Nizhny Novgorod" has channels on Telegram and MAX.
