The launch of the waste landfill in Arzamas has been postponed until the summer of 2028.

      On July 6, 2026, at 12:12, Society reported that the commissioning of a new inter-municipal solid municipal waste landfill in Arzamas has been postponed until July 1, 2028, "due to a number of objective reasons." This is stated in the draft order of the regional Ministry of Ecology, which is undergoing a regulatory impact assessment procedure.

      Recall that the waste management complex is being built as part of the national project "Ecological Well-Being," aimed at reducing the volume of waste disposal. The concession agreement was signed in March 2023 between the government of the Nizhny Novgorod region and LLC "Project 3." The volume of capital expenditures was estimated at 2.9 billion rubles.

      The facility is being constructed near the village of Volchikha in the Arzamas urban district. It is planned that it will accept no less than 160,000 tons of waste annually.

      In August 2025, it was reported that the readiness of the facility was about 60% of the planned volume of preparatory work. The complex was previously planned to be launched by 2027.

      According to the explanatory note to the draft order, due to the postponement of deadlines, it will be necessary to redistribute the waste streams from the Arzamas and Serny clusters to other waste disposal facilities in the region. The new scheme will be in effect from January 1, 2027, to June 30, 2028.

      The aim of the changes is to prevent disruptions in the provision of waste collection services for consumers in these areas.
