Protection zones for six cultural heritage sites have been established in the Nizhny Novgorod region.
On July 6, 2026, at 10:50, Culture and Leisure The Government of the Nizhny Novgorod Region adopted five resolutions establishing protection zones for cultural heritage sites of regional significance. The decisions concern six monuments in Pavlov, Gorodets, Nizhny Novgorod, Voznesensky, and Volodarsky districts. The documents are published on the website for the official publication of legal acts.
In Pavlov, a combined protection zone has been established for two sites - the "Residential Building" at Kuybyshev Street, 7, and the "Smirnov's Tenement House" at Kuybyshev Street, 3/13. The decision aims to ensure their preservation in the historical environment.
In Gorodets, protection zones have been approved for the site "House of T.T. Kulavin with blind carving" located at Novaya Street, 57 (letters A, A1).
In Nizhny Novgorod, protective status has been assigned to the site "City Primary School (Georgievskoye)" at Vaneeva Street, 7/57 (letters A, A2, A3).
Protection zones have also been approved for the "Pokrovskaya Church" in the village of Naryshkino in the Voznesensky district and for the site "Trinity Church," built in 1876, in the village of Starkovo in the Volodarsky district.
In all cases, the boundaries of the protected areas, restrictions on land use, and requirements for urban planning regulations have been established.
In particular, new capital construction is prohibited within the boundaries of the zones, except for certain cases related to engineering infrastructure and ensuring the functioning of the sites themselves. Reconstruction is restricted if it violates the parameters of the historical and urban environment.
The use of construction technologies that could negatively affect the monuments is prohibited, as well as the placement of explosive and fire hazardous objects, and cellular base stations and antenna-mast structures if they worsen the visual perception of the sites.
The placement of advertisements, signs, and non-capital structures is limited. Only structures of a specified size and format that do not distort the historical appearance of the area are permitted.
Additionally, requirements for finishing materials and color solutions for facades are regulated. The placement of waste, the establishment of warehouses, and the burial of pesticides are prohibited in the protection zones.
However, work on landscaping, greening, the installation of small architectural forms, and creating conditions for people with limited mobility is allowed, provided that they do not harm the historical environment and the cultural heritage sites themselves.
It was previously reported that a court ordered the owner to demolish an unauthorized construction that he erected within the protective zones of federal cultural heritage sites - "Residential House (wood), 1860s" (Svobody Street, 127) and "Residential House (wood), 1877" (Svobody Street, 129) in Sormovo.
