The non-competitive program "Gorky fest-2026" has become known.
June 24, 2026 5:00 PM Culture and Leisure Next week, the anniversary X festival of new Russian cinema "Gorky fest" (18+) will kick off in Nizhny Novgorod. This year, the main theme of the film review will be the symbol of the time machine, which will unite the competitive and special programs of the festival. As the program director of the festival, Andrei Apostolov, mentioned at a TASS press conference on June 24, the basis of the non-competitive program will be the motif of time travel. The organizers have prepared a selection of films in which this narrative device is used as a way to talk about the past, present, and future. A separate program will be dedicated to the People's Artist of the RSFSR, Yevgeny Yevstigneev. It will include films featuring the actor, as well as works by Eldar Ryazanov, in which Yevstigneev played leading roles. Also, as part of the anniversary "Gorky fest," the program "Bitter Ten" will take place. It will bring together films by winners and prizewinners of previous years, which the organizers decided to revisit in the year of the festival's decade. Another special direction will be a program dedicated to the Year of Unity of the Peoples of Russia, noted the festival's general producer, Oksana Mikheeva. It will be related to the themes of culture, peoples, and their interaction. Together with the Nizhny Novgorod community, the festival will present the project "Voice of Gorky," dedicated to popularizing the works of Maxim Gorky. The program will include exhibitions and other events. A significant focus of the program will be on educational activities. The educational part will include master classes and meetings with representatives of the film industry. Participants will be able to discuss the work of directors, screenwriters, and producers. Among the speakers are director Klim Kozinsky ("First Number" (18+)), screenwriter Savva Minaev ("Major in Sochi" (16+), "Holop 3" (12+)), as well as screenwriter Alexander Noskov and director Pavel Timofeev, who worked on the series "Get on Your Feet" (18+). In addition, discussions about the future of Russian cinema are planned in the program. One of them will focus on the new generation of producers who began independent work in the 2020s. The competitive program of the festival has already been published, including 18 films. Additionally, the composition of the jury for "Gorky fest" has been announced.
