      June 22, 2026 10:15 Society The majority of residents of Nizhny Novgorod planning vacations in the summer of 2026 are choosing trips within Russia. Domestic destinations account for 80% of bookings, reported the press service of the online hotel and apartment booking service "Ostrovok." The most popular choices are major tourist centers and seaside resorts. The top ten most popular destinations include St. Petersburg, Moscow, Sochi, Kazan, Kaliningrad, Volgograd, Kislovodsk, Gelendzhik, and Pyatigorsk. Nizhny Novgorod residents most often travel within the country as couples—45% of bookings are made by couples without children. Families with children account for 31%, solo travelers for 15%, and groups of adults for 9%. When choosing accommodation, tourists from Nizhny Novgorod prefer apartments—29% of bookings are for them. Next are unclassified hotels—23%, three-star hotels—18%, guest houses—13%, and four-star hotels—9%. At the same time, analysts are noting a growing interest in international trips. The share of international destinations has reached 20%—six percentage points more than a year earlier. The most sought-after countries are Belarus, Abkhazia, Georgia, Turkey, and Armenia. Nizhny Novgorod residents also most often travel abroad as couples—41%. Family trips account for 31% of bookings, solo trips for 16%, and group trips for 12%. By the way, this year international trips have become more affordable due to the strengthening of the ruble. There has been a noticeable decrease in prices for several popular destinations: Turkey, Italy, and China—by 2%, and in neighboring countries, including Georgia, Armenia, and Uzbekistan—by 5-7%. Nizhny Novgorod itself also remains a popular destination for domestic trips this summer, ranking sixth among Russian cities in terms of bookings. The average cost of one night in hotels and apartments in the city reaches 7,400 rubles—1% higher than last summer. The average trip duration has not changed and is three nights.
