The event "Fiery Paintings of War" took place in Nizhny Novgorod.
On June 22, 2026, 10:39 Society In the night from June 21 to June 22, an international event "Fire Pictures of War" took place in Victory Park. 10,000 candles merged into a symbolic canvas dedicated to the labor feat of the Nizhny Novgorod region during the Great Patriotic War. The event was organized by the Nizhny Novgorod regional branch of the United Russia party and the regional branch of the All-Russian public movement "Volunteers of Victory" with the support of the government of the Nizhny Novgorod region. "People of different ages, professions, and views gathered here, but what unites everyone is a sense of respect for their country and its heroes. When thousands of candles come together to form a single image, it becomes a symbol of our unity, our gratitude, and our readiness to preserve what is truly important. It is in such moments that you especially clearly understand: the strength of Russia has always been in the people who know how to be together both in difficult years and on days of remembrance," noted State Duma deputy Artem Kavinov. This year, the fire picture is dedicated to the labor feat of the residents of Gorky. From 10,000 candles, volunteers laid out images of two legendary symbols of the wartime era. The GAZ-AA truck - the famous "one-and-a-half," the main transport vehicle of the front and rear during the war years, the savior of besieged Leningrad. And the Il-2 attack aircraft, which was produced by the Gorky aircraft factory during the war. The fiery canvas became a tribute to the memory of the workers in the rear who forged Victory at the machines. "During the Great Patriotic War, more than 800,000 residents of the Gorky region went to the front. Those who remained in the rear - not only men but also women, children, and the elderly - worked in several shifts to provide the fighters with equipment. More than 100,000 guns and 50,000 units of equipment: tanks, armored vehicles, airplanes, and submarines - were produced on the assembly line of Gorky factories during the war. For the selflessness of our fellow countrymen, Nizhny Novgorod received the title of 'City of Labor Valor,' and the One-and-a-Half and Il-2 became some of the symbols of the feat of Gorky's rear workers. We must remember the heroism of our ancestors and pass this memory on to future generations," emphasized Dmitry Filipenko, head of the Nizhny Novgorod regional executive committee of the United Russia party. About 1,000 residents of Nizhny Novgorod, participants of various youth and public movements, took part in the event. "The Fire Pictures of War event is our common quiet conversation with history. And each lit candle is a sign of respect for those who heroically brought Victory closer. We must remember the heroism of our ancestors and pass this memory on to future generations. Their selflessness and labor became the foundation of our freedom and independence," said Maria Samodelkina, head of the Nizhny Novgorod regional branch of the All-Russian public movement "Volunteers of Victory." Participants of the event honored the memory of the fallen with a moment of silence, after which a concert program featuring creative groups unfolded on stage. Honorary guests addressed the assembled crowd with welcoming words. The ceremony concluded with the laying of flowers and lighting lamps at the obelisk "City of Labor Valor." "It is very nice to see that many young people are present at the event. After all, we organize such events to preserve the memory of the events of the Great Patriotic War and to pass on the true history of our country to younger generations. The war changed the fates of hundreds of millions of people; it touched every Russian family, but it ended with a Great Victory! Our grandchildren and great-grandchildren must know that we are descendants of victors, and most importantly, remember the price of this Victory," noted State Duma deputy and regional coordinator of the party project "Historical Memory" Vadim Bulavinov. Nizhny Novgorod joined the international event "Fire Pictures of War" for the seventh time. In 2026, on the eve of the 81st anniversary of the beginning of the Great Patriotic War, hundreds of concerned residents of Nizhny Novgorod lit candles again to honor the memory of heroes and remind that the feat of the people is not forgotten. "85 years ago, the lives of people and the history of our country were divided into 'before' and 'after,' and we still feel the heavy breath of that war. 27 million died in the name of Victory. We bow our heads before the incredible feat of the Gorky residents at the front and in the rear and will always remember this heroism and pass on the sacred memory as the most precious inheritance from generation to generation, so that the light of their feat never fades in the hearts of our children and grandchildren," shared Hero of Labor of Russia, deputy of the Legislative Assembly, chief physician of the 29th city hospital of Nizhny Novgorod, Yulia Garevskaya. Let us remind you that preserving the historical and cultural heritage of Russia is one of the most important areas of implementing the People's Program of United Russia and the party project "Historical Memory."
