Gleb Nikitin spoke in Moscow about the development of tourism in the Nizhny Novgorod region.
On June 10, 2026, at 17:37, Society The Governor of the Nizhny Novgorod Region, Gleb Nikitin, presented the best practices for developing tourism in the region at the plenary session of the VI International Tourism Forum "Travel!" (12+), which is taking place from June 10 to 14 at VDNH in Moscow. The head of the region shared his experience in transforming the tourism industry, noting that in recent years, the Nizhny Novgorod Region has transitioned from being predominantly an industrial region to one of the leaders in domestic tourism. "We have made tourism an absolute priority and implemented a systematic approach. We are open and sincerely want our colleagues to be able to use our experience," said Gleb Nikitin. According to him, based on the results of 2025, the Nizhny Novgorod Region entered the top three Russian leaders in sustainable tourism development. Compared to 2021, the tourist flow increased by one and a half times, reaching 5 million people. Collective accommodation facilities hosted about 1.9 million guests, and the total volume of tourist spending in the region exceeded 80 billion rubles. Gleb Nikitin noted that the development of tourism requires a comprehensive approach. In particular, this involves the development of railway, air, river, and road transport, as well as the formation of a rich event program. The governor paid special attention to the development of small historical towns. As an example, he cited Vyksa, which has gradually transformed from an industrial mono-city into a center of modern culture. This was facilitated by the creation of the industrial Shukhov Park with the support of the national project "Tourism and Hospitality" and the annual "Vyksa Festival" (6+). According to the head of the region, each small town should have its own recognizable profile. He mentioned such examples as Bolshoye Boldino, associated with the name of Alexander Pushkin, and Semyonov, which is considered the capital of Khokhloma painting. One of the key projects in the field of spiritual and cultural tourism, the governor named the pilgrimage and tourist cluster "Arzamas - Diveevo - Sarov." According to him, thanks to large-scale landscaping, the introduction of a tourist code, and the development of an event program, it has been possible to significantly change the appearance of Arzamas. Work on restoring historical sites in Diveevo and Sarov continues. Earlier, it was reported that tourism brought 94 billion rubles to the Nizhny Novgorod Region.
