A Sarov resident transferred 1.8 million rubles to scammers, fearing a hack of "Gosuslugi".

On June 7, 2026, at 14:50, incidents occurred in Sarov where a 60-year-old woman became a victim of telephone scammers and lost all her savings after receiving a message about an alleged hacking of her account on "Gosuslugi," reported the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the Nizhny Novgorod region. According to the victim, she received a notification in a messenger about unauthorized access to her personal data. The message included a "hotline" number, which she called. During the conversation, the unknown individuals convinced the woman that a general power of attorney had been issued in her name to third parties. Then a man joined the conversation, introducing himself as an employee of Rosfinmonitoring. He stated that to secure her funds, it was necessary to urgently cash out her savings and transfer them to so-called "safe accounts." Over four days, the resident of Sarov withdrew money from banks, after which she transferred 1.8 million rubles through an ATM in Nizhny Novgorod according to the dictated details. A criminal case has been initiated under part 4 of article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation "Fraud." Police are conducting operational search activities to identify those involved. The maximum penalty under the article provides for up to 10 years of imprisonment. The Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the Nizhny Novgorod region reminds that law enforcement officers, bank employees, the "Gosuslugi" portal, and financial authorities do not require transferring money to "safe" or "special" accounts—such accounts do not exist. Passwords, codes from SMS, and full bank card details should not be disclosed to third parties. In case of fraud, it is necessary to contact the police at the numbers 02, 102, or 112. It was previously reported that a Nizhny Novgorod schoolboy gave scammers 2.5 million rubles and his parents' jewelry. NIA "Nizhny Novgorod" has channels on Telegram and MAX.
