June 5, 2026 13:40 Society Currently, there are about 200 students from Iran studying at universities in Nizhny Novgorod. This was reported by the director of the Center for Oriental Studies at NGLU named after N.A. Dobrolyubov, member of the Council for Interethnic Relations under the governor of the region, Eradzh Boev. According to him, Iranian applicants most often enroll in technical, natural science, and medical fields. Before starting their studies in Russian, they undergo a preparatory year, intensively studying the language at special faculties. He noted that Nizhny Novgorod is trying to create a comfortable environment for foreign students so that they can better familiarize themselves with the Russian language, history, and culture. Boev added that overall interest in studying in Russia among Iranian students is growing. In 2021, more than 2,600 citizens of Iran studied at Russian universities, in 2024 there were already 3,700, and in 2025 their number reached 9,200. The universities in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Kazan, and Vladivostok currently accept the most students from Iran. It was previously reported that a village with 450 houses for foreigners moving to Russia on a "traditional values visa" will be created in the Nizhny Novgorod region.
