The 404 Museum exhibition was presented in the Nizhny Novgorod space CEХ.

On June 5, 2026, at 12:31, Culture and Leisure: The 404 Museum exhibition (6+) opened in Nizhny Novgorod. In the CEH space, viewers will see three installations that transform the architecture of the space using light and sound. The exhibition will run until July 26. This is reported by pravda-nn.ru.

The exhibition was presented by the duo 404.zero. The works of St. Petersburg media artists Kristina Karpysheva and Alexander Letzius are known worldwide—from Tokyo to New York. 404.zero presents themselves as "audiovisual architects"—in their projects, media artists transform space using lasers, light, and sound design.

Six years ago, they prepared an audiovisual installation called Arrival for Nizhny Novgorod. Additionally, their works are familiar to audiences from the INTERVALS festival. In the CEH space, three installations appeared—40.0, 1.0, and 4.1. Such numerical titles were chosen intentionally—according to the authors' concept, the codes transform into digital matter.

Each installation has two digits in its title. The first indicates the number of light fixtures, while the second indicates the number of analog objects, explained the exhibition's creative producer Anastasia Novikova.

40.0 transports viewers from a spacious hall into a volumetric drawing. The geometry of the space is created using light beams, and the visitors passing through them act as a moving part of a static coordinate system.

Vertical cones of directed light descending from ceiling structures penetrate this system from top to bottom, like columns of materialized air. Here, light works as an independent material: it constructs a structure where there is physically none—this is how the authors describe the installation.

The second installation, 1.0, is built around a laser beam placed in the center of the hall. It outlines the space and creates the illusion of a tunnel. As one moves away from the source, the light figure expands, transforming from a point into a rectangle. The viewer, stepping inside, seems to find themselves in another dimension—the "inside out" of the space. As they move forward, they gradually dissolve into the void.

In this work, the authors explore how a simple action—the movement of the beam through a series of holes—turns architecture into an optical instrument, and the voids between the walls into an independent object.

The final installation, 4.1, is the only one that uses an analog object. In the center of the hall, an LED screen is suspended on cables. It slowly descends, then rises to the ceiling. The movement is accompanied by flashes of bright light and sounds from analog synthesizers, reminiscent of the hum of machines. This creates a sense of slight discomfort and emotional tension for the viewer.

According to the authors' concept, the screen is initially perceived as an image, then as an object, and finally as a body. As it descends, the density of the space changes: the air between the ceiling and the floor becomes physically palpable.

Earlier, we reported that Channel One was filming a program at Shchelokovsky Farm.
