Nizhny Novgorod Region and MGIMO agreed to expand cooperation.
On June 5, 2026, at 13:22, Politics The Government of the Nizhny Novgorod Region and the Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO) of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs signed a cooperation agreement. On June 4, at the venue of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum 2026 (18+), Governor Gleb Nikitin and MGIMO Rector Anatoly Torkunov put their signatures.
The agreements reached will help strengthen the human resources potential of the region, develop education and science, as well as implement joint projects in various fields. Among the key areas are the training of specialists for government bodies and leading sectors of the economy, support for scientific research, development of international relations, youth policy, and career guidance.
The development of human capital is one of the key priorities of the Nizhny Novgorod Region. Today, the region needs a new generation of specialists with modern management, economic, and international competencies, noted Gleb Nikitin.
The governor emphasized that cooperation with MGIMO will help combine the university's potential and the region's opportunities to train in-demand specialists, implement scientific and educational projects, and develop international relations. He added that the agreement is intended for the long term and will help increase the region's competitiveness, opening new opportunities for its residents.
"We regularly participate in career and educational events at the university, interact with student associations, inform future specialists about the region's opportunities, and invite them to implement our projects. Today's agreement elevates this interaction to a fundamentally new level: it will allow us to systematically attract promising young talents from all over the country to the Nizhny Novgorod Region," added Dmitry Starostin, Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Nizhny Novgorod Region.
He also noted that the Nizhny Novgorod Region plans to actively involve leading university experts in consultations when developing key strategic documents, building the region's foreign economic activities, and its international positioning. Anatoly Torkunov, for his part, pointed out the long-standing ties between MGIMO and the Nizhny Novgorod Region. He noted that every year, graduates of Nizhny Novgorod schools enroll in the university and then successfully build careers in public administration, business, and the international sphere. According to him, the new agreement opens additional opportunities for developing partnerships and supporting youth.
The parties agreed to develop a system for training and retraining personnel for government bodies, industry, agriculture, social sphere, ecology, and other sectors of the region. A separate direction will be the development and implementation of educational programs, including distance learning, to improve the qualifications of civil servants in the executive authorities and the government apparatus of the Nizhny Novgorod Region.
