What does a "crisis apartment" look like for pregnant women from Nizhny Novgorod with children?

      On June 3, 2026, 12:25 Society In Nizhny Novgorod, a "crisis apartment" has been established for pregnant women and mothers with children who find themselves in difficult life situations. The safe space is designed to accommodate up to three families at the same time and is equipped with everything necessary for comfortable living. Here, families will be able to receive comprehensive support and assistance in resolving the difficulties they face.

      As reported by the Ministry of Social Development and Family Policy of the Nizhny Novgorod Region, the "crisis apartment" is intended for women with children who have suffered from violence, as well as those who have lost their housing or means of subsistence. The operation of the facility is overseen by the social rehabilitation center for minors "Vera" in the Moscow district of the regional center.

      Each family residing in the apartment receives safe housing and comprehensive support from specialists: psychologists, social workers, lawyers, and other experts depending on the situation. The apartment includes five living rooms—three bedrooms and common areas: a living room, kitchen, and bathroom. There is also a storage room, laundry, all necessary household appliances and furniture, as well as an office for the on-duty social work specialist.

      On June 2, the Minister of Social Development and Family Policy of the Nizhny Novgorod Region, Igor Sedykh, inspected the new space. He emphasized that supporting families with children, especially in crisis situations, as well as developing the institution of motherhood and childhood, is a priority of the national project "Family."

      Igor Sedykh noted that the first such space in the region was established back in 2023 and served five families at once.

      "Now we are opening a second crisis apartment for three families. Plans are in place to create new facilities for emergency accommodation of families in other municipalities in the region: Dzerzhinsk, Arzamas, Vyksa," said the minister.

      The director of the ANO "Resource Center 'Children in the Family'" Svetlana Meller explained that such places are created within the framework of the concept of the "Unified Model of Assistance to Children."

      "Accommodation in 'crisis apartments' and support are intended for mothers and children temporarily deprived of housing and unable to cope with difficulties on their own. This includes victims of domestic violence, fire victims, pregnant women, and others who find themselves in distress," she noted.

      The concept of the "Unified Model of Assistance to Children" was developed by the ministry in collaboration with the People's Front project "Region of Care" and continues the project "Prevention of Social Orphanhood among Children under 4 Years," initiated by the Presidential Commissioner for Children's Rights Maria Lvova-Belova. The main goal of the initiative is to reduce the number of children in institutional care and create a support system for families in crisis without separating them from their children.

      The national project "Family" provides support measures for the development of families: expanding social assistance, creating conditions for active longevity of the older generation, and ensuring quality and accessible healthcare. Projects are being implemented in the country at the direction of the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin.
