June 2, 2026 12:09 Culture and Leisure On June 3, the House of National Unity will host the premiere of the documentary film "I Am Nearby" (16+). The screening will be the central event of the eponymous psycho-educational festival-dialogue dedicated to issues of mental health and social support. The film tells the story of Nizhny Novgorod families raising children and living with adults who have mental disorders. The authors of the film showcase the everyday lives of the protagonists—highlighting their challenges, search for support, faith in the future, and desire for a fulfilling social life. The film's author, Lyudmila Maslova, notes that working on the film required special delicacy: the topic of mental disorders remains one of the most challenging for public discussion.

However, this topic cannot be removed from public life, as it is precisely the delicate attention and support for people with mental disorders that makes us all kinder and nobler," she added.

Using the example of Nizhny Novgorod families, the film demonstrates how to and why it is necessary to build processes for the socialization and adaptation of children, adolescents, and adults to life in society, as well as what methods, mechanisms, and practices exist to support parents raising children with mental disorders. The film also features opinions from doctors, writers, educators, museum staff, as well as the parents and their children themselves. The film "I Am Nearby" was created by the Nizhny Novgorod Regional Information Center in collaboration with the Nizhny Novgorod Regional Organization of the All-Russian Society of Disabled People "New Opportunities" with the support of the Ministry of Health of the Nizhny Novgorod Region. The festival will bring together specialists in the fields of medicine, social work, education, culture, representatives of the media, and non-profit organizations. The program also includes lectures and training sessions dedicated to issues of diagnosis, support, and social adaptation of people with mental characteristics. The organizers of the festival are the Nizhny Novgorod Regional Branch of the All-Russian Public Organization of Disabled People "New Opportunities," the Nizhny Novgorod Regional Information Center (NOIC), and the House of National Unity.
