EGE without stress: Nizhny Novgorod residents were told how to successfully pass the exams

On May 31, 2026, at 15:12, Society In the Nizhny Novgorod region, the main period of the Unified State Exam (USE) begins. Tomorrow, students will start taking exams in some of the most challenging subjects—history, literature, and chemistry. The editor-in-chief of "Stationary Press," Alexey Nikонов, shared tips on how to navigate this phase without panic and exhausting cramming in his MAX channel. According to him, in the last days before the exams, it is important for parents to abandon the "total control" mode. When a child feels constant monitoring and parental anxiety, cortisol levels—the stress hormone—rise, which can hinder concentration and information recall. Calm support is more effective than strict checks and intimidation. Sleep plays a key role. Attempts to "stay up all night" with textbooks often do more harm than good. It is during sleep that information transitions into long-term memory. Lack of rest reduces attention, thinking speed, and the ability to recall learned material. An effective strategy remains the "Pomodoro" technique. The optimal routine is 25-40 minutes of focused material review, followed by a short break. Without rest, the brain becomes overloaded: reading continues, but comprehension sharply declines. The context effect also comes into play. If the same scent or flavor of gum is used during preparation and the exam, familiar associations will help retrieve the necessary knowledge more quickly. Another technique is the Feynman method. Parents are encouraged to act as "dumb listeners" and ask their child to explain a complex topic in a couple of minutes. This method shifts information from passive memorization to active understanding. It is also better to discuss a possible unsuccessful outcome in advance. The phrase "your whole life depends on this" only heightens the paralysis. Having a "Plan B" reduces anxiety and frees up resources for solving tasks. Special attention should be paid to nutrition and hydration. Sweets provide a short burst of energy, followed by a drop. Nuts, fatty fish, and complex carbohydrates will provide a more stable effect. Even mild dehydration can reduce concentration, so it is important to maintain water balance. Recall that this year, more than 14,200 residents of the Nizhny Novgorod region are expected to take the exams, including over 12,700 current year graduates.
