The Ministry of Emergency Situations denied the introduction of a ban on the use of phones at gas stations.

On May 29, 2026, at 13:10, the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia stated that information about the introduction of a ban on the use of mobile phones at gas stations is not true. Earlier, a number of media outlets reported that starting June 1, drivers would allegedly be prohibited from using smartphones outside the car near fuel pumps. It was reported that the new requirements are being introduced by the Ministry of Emergency Situations in conjunction with fuel operators and concern phone conversations and any use of mobile devices during refueling. Publications claimed that the reason for the restrictions is the risk of a spark that could lead to the ignition of fuel vapors. It was noted that an exception is planned for payments via QR code at the terminal. The agency emphasized that the current fire safety requirements do not contain a direct ban on the use of mobile communication devices on the territory of gas stations. Furthermore, the Ministry of Emergency Situations noted that it is not considering the introduction of such a ban. The procedure for ensuring safety is regulated by the Fire Safety Rules in the Russian Federation, approved by the government resolution of September 16, 2020, No. 1479, as well as by the Code of Rules SP 156.13130.2014 "Automobile Gas Stations. Fire Safety Requirements." It was previously reported that Nizhny Novgorod IT solutions will be tested for gas station infrastructure. NIA "Nizhny Novgorod" has channels on Telegram and MAX.
