The death of a 17-year-old girl in the Shakhunsky district has led to an investigation by the Investigative Committee.

      On May 25, 2026, 12:47 Incidents An investigative check has been organized in the Shakhunsky district regarding the death of a 17-year-old girl at a water body. This was reported by the Investigative Committee of Russia for the Nizhny Novgorod region. The tragedy occurred on May 23 at a lake located near the village of Bolshie Kuliki. Upon examination of the drowned girl, investigators did not find any visible bodily injuries of a criminal nature. A forensic medical examination has been appointed to establish the exact cause of death. According to available information, the girl was swimming in an unprepared place, submerged underwater, and did not surface. Currently, the Investigative Committee staff are determining all the circumstances of the incident. Based on the results of the check, a procedural decision will be made. The investigative committee reminds of the necessity to prevent uncontrolled presence of children near water bodies and to conduct preventive talks with them. "Any water body is a place of increased danger. The safety of children is the responsibility of adults," emphasized the agency.
