Fraudsters stole nearly 8,000,000 rubles from the widow of a soldier from the Special Military Operation in Dzerzhinsk.

On May 19, 2026, at 09:15, incidents occurred where scammers stole nearly 8 million rubles from a 55-year-old resident of Dzerzhinsk under the pretext of receiving compensation for the death of her husband. This was reported by the press service of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the Nizhny Novgorod region.

From January 31 to April 28, 2026, the victim received systematic calls from unknown individuals who claimed to be employees of law enforcement agencies, the Central Bank of the Russian Federation, and the state services portal. Using psychological pressure tactics, the scammers convinced the woman that she was entitled to a large monetary compensation due to her husband's death.

To receive the payments, the fraudsters demanded that she cash out her savings, take out loans, and transfer money to "safe accounts." The woman sent part of the funds to the specified bank cards and personally handed over cash to couriers twice.

The total damage amounted to 7 million 965 thousand rubles, of which 770 thousand rubles were loaned funds, and the rest were the victim's personal savings, including insurance payments for her husband's death in the area of the special military operation.

A criminal case has been initiated under part 4 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation for "Fraud committed on a particularly large scale." Police are conducting operational search activities to identify and apprehend the participants in the criminal scheme.

It was previously reported that two scammers stole more than 13 million rubles from soldiers of the special military operation in Nizhny Novgorod.
