Top 5 questions about how to vote for the improvement of cities and villages
May 19, 2026 11:16 Society More than 200,000 residents of the Nizhny Novgorod region have already cast their votes for parks and squares that will be improved under the federal program "Formation of a Comfortable Urban Environment" as part of the national project "Infrastructure for Life." The chairman of the committee on housing and utilities and energy of the Legislative Assembly of the Nizhny Novgorod region, Vladimir Bespalov, answered the main questions about voting for the facilities to be improved.
— Vladimir Viktorovich, how many public spaces are up for voting this year?
— A total of 93 public spaces are presented in 23 municipalities. It is necessary to highlight the most preferred ones. Voting allows residents, who live and work in these localities, to choose parks and squares for improvement. This is an important point because the project is aimed at improving the quality of life for Nizhny Novgorod residents.
— How does the voting process work?
— It is a simple mechanism; the entire process takes literally a few minutes. You need to go to the resource zagorodsreda.gosuslugi.ru. Click the "Vote" button, log in to "Gosuslugi." Then select the municipality, identify one public area from the list, and make your choice.
— What innovations have appeared this year in the voting procedure?
— The main innovation is that you can vote not only for the public spaces located in your municipality but also in any other. Moreover, all residents of the Nizhny Novgorod region can vote. According to the program's conditions, localities with fewer than 20,000 residents are currently not participating in the project. There, facilities are being improved under other programs. However, residents of these districts can support the development of neighboring municipalities, localities where their relatives live, by voting for the areas that are dear and important to them. Another innovation is that voting is allowed from the age of 14. And it seems logical to me because it is the youth who often use the updated parks and squares. By lowering the age threshold, we give an opportunity for an even larger audience to express their opinion.
— What assistance do volunteers provide?
— When a person is computer literate, it is easy for them to participate in voting. But there are older people who face difficulties using the Internet, yet they also want to express their opinion. This is exactly why our army of volunteers is working. They help people vote using the tablets issued to them or through the personal mobile phones of residents, introduce Nizhny Novgorod residents to the list of spaces put forward for voting, and explain the program.
— Voting will last until June 12 inclusive. What happens next?
— Since 2019, 550 public spaces and 3,000 courtyards have been improved under the program "Formation of a Comfortable Urban Environment." Projects that receive the maximum number of votes during this ranking vote will definitely be improved in 2027. We will be able to see the selection results in the next few days after the voting ends. NIA "Nizhny Novgorod" has channels on Telegram and MAX.
