Fraudsters stole almost 8,000,000 rubles from the widow of a soldier from the Special Military Operation in Dzerzhinsk.
On May 19, 2026, at 09:15, Incidents: Scammers stole nearly 8 million rubles from a 55-year-old resident of Dzerzhinsk under the pretext of receiving payments for the death of her husband. This was reported by the press service of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the Nizhny Novgorod region.
From January 31 to April 28, 2026, the victim received systematic calls from unknown individuals claiming to be law enforcement officers, employees of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation, and representatives of the state services portal. Using psychological pressure tactics, the fraudsters convinced the woman that she was entitled to a large monetary compensation due to her husband's death.
To receive the payments, the scammers demanded that she cash out her savings, take out loans, and transfer money to "safe accounts." The woman sent part of the funds to the specified bank cards and handed over cash to couriers in person on two occasions.
The total damage amounted to 7 million 965 thousand rubles. Of this, 770 thousand rubles were loaned funds, while the rest were the victim's personal savings, including insurance payments for her husband's death in the area of the special military operation.
A criminal case has been initiated under part 4 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation for "Fraud committed on a particularly large scale." Police are conducting operational search activities to identify and apprehend the participants in the criminal scheme.
