By the second half of the day, the flow of cars sharply increased: many Nizhny Novgorod residents headed out of town for the weekend. In addition to the usual evening rush hour, dacha owners' cars added to the congestion, causing traffic on several streets to come to a near standstill.

      The situation was particularly difficult in the hilly part of the city. Serious traffic jams formed on Belinsky, Ilyinskaya, Novaya, Bolshaya and Malaya Pokrovskaya, Vorovskogo, Zvezdinka, Osharskaya, and Beketova streets. In the Zarechnaya part of Nizhny Novgorod, drivers were also forced to spend the evening in multi-kilometer traffic jams. The jams stretched along Sergei Akimov, Karl Marx, Burnakovskaya, Narodnaya, Kuybysheva, and Novikova-Priboya streets. Difficulties with passage also arose in the area of Meshchersky Boulevard.
