Illegal alcohol continues to be seized from Nizhny Novgorod traders.

      May 15, 2026 11:31 Economy More than 150 units of illegal alcoholic products have been seized from illegal circulation following an inspection conducted by employees of the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Entrepreneurship of the Nizhny Novgorod region. Counterfeit products were discovered at a catering establishment in the Avtozavodsky district of Nizhny Novgorod. Administrative offense cases have been initiated. "Since the beginning of 2026, the Ministry of Industry has conducted nine inspections of organizations and individual entrepreneurs. As a result, violations were identified: some points lacked licenses for sale and accompanying documents. Following the inspections, 34 protocols on administrative offenses were drawn up. More than 250 units of illegal products have been seized from illegal circulation," said Maxim Cherkasov, Minister of Industry, Trade and Entrepreneurship of the Nizhny Novgorod region. Unscheduled inspections are continuously carried out based on requests received from residents, as well as the analysis of the interdepartmental management system developed by the Ministry of Industry in the field of control and licensing. As previously reported, since May 2024, there has been a ban on the sale of alcohol from 11:00 PM to 9:00 AM in catering establishments located in residential buildings and adjacent territories in the Nizhny Novgorod region. This measure became possible due to changes in federal legislation, initiated in part by the Nizhny Novgorod region, which allowed regions to impose restrictions on the sale of alcoholic products in such establishments. Since the ban came into effect, 214 establishments specializing in the retail sale of alcoholic products with low consumption culture have closed in the Nizhny Novgorod region. Residents of the Nizhny Novgorod region, if there are suspicions of illegal trade in alcoholic products, can contact the regional Ministry of Industry for an inspection of the trading facility. In accordance with the legislation of the Russian Federation, the application must be authorized, that is, written on behalf of a citizen with confirmation of their passport data. The system receives data on identified catering and trading points, as well as on houses and apartments where illegal sale of alcohol may be taking place. Such violations include trading without a license, accompanying documents, and necessary labeling, as well as underground sales of alcohol of unknown origin.
