      May 14, 2026 5:30 PM Culture and Leisure The restoration of the Gorky Literary Museum is nearing completion. The building's readiness is already estimated at 90%, with all rough work completed. This was reported by the mayor of Nizhny Novgorod on his Max channel.

      Currently, as the city head noted, one of the most interesting stages has begun. Artists are hand-painting the walls, restoring ancient patterns based on archival photographs, and have started gilding elements. Unique technologies are being used to combine matte and glossy shades.

      "The interiors will feature not only classic yellow but also white gold," noted Yuri Shalabaev.

      The floors in the halls are fully laid, and the parquet has been polished—it just needs to be varnished. Restored doors are being prepared for installation. Work is also nearing completion in the Oak Hall, where oak trims are being installed on the windows.

      The garden will also be transformed: there are plans to restore the paths and plant shrubs and flowers as they were during the time of the house's owner, Varvara Burmistrova. The mayor expressed confidence that after the restoration is completed, the museum will "shine anew" and become a vibrant and inspiring space for all who love the city and its history.

      Let us remind you that the museum is located in the cultural heritage site "House of V.M. Burmistrova with interior." The building was closed for restoration in 2019. In 2020, a fire occurred at the site, which slowed down the restoration. In 2022, the contract with the previous contractor, the company "AVK Group," was terminated. In January of this year, it was reported that the work was almost 80% complete. The restoration is expected to be fully completed by the summer of 2026.
