Specialists in the operation of cable cars have begun to be trained in the Nizhny Novgorod region.

On May 13, 2026, at 18:19, Society In Nizhny Novgorod, the practical stage of training personnel for the new transport industry has begun. Students from the Bor Governorate College—future specialists in the operation of cable cars—were introduced to the functioning Nizhny Novgorod cable car. The classes took place with the participation of specialists from the operating company UrbanTech Service LLC and became an important stage in forming competencies in the field of passenger cable car and funicular operation.

The excursion began with safety instructions and a general introduction to the Nizhny Novgorod cable car. After that, the students were able to engage in real production processes—the practice continued in the machine room. The students also learned about the operation of the main systems of the cable car, inspected the boarding and alighting areas for passengers, and learned about their maintenance features.

The implementation of such a training format is due to the growing demand for qualified workers. According to forecasts from the World Economic Forum (WEF), by 2030, the demand for specialists in skilled professions will significantly increase, especially against the backdrop of the active implementation of modern technologies and automation. In these conditions, the training of personnel for infrastructure sectors, including the operation of cable transport systems, becomes particularly significant.

For the Nizhny Novgorod region, this direction is strategically important. The training of specialists in cable cars is being developed in response to the growing demand from regional infrastructure projects. In particular, in Nizhny Novgorod, the construction of a new cable car across the Oka River is planned, and the preparation of interested personnel today is focused on ensuring its operation.

“Excursions and practical classes are a key element of training. Students begin to understand the profession through real processes, equipment, and production tasks. The high interest from students confirms the demand for acquiring new competencies within the framework of professional training in this direction,” noted the director of the Bor Governorate College, Alexey Volkov.

UrbanTech Service LLC emphasized that the participation of students in the work of an operating facility is not only an educational process but also a systematic effort to form a personnel reserve for the industry.

“The cable car represents a complex technological complex that requires not only theoretical training but also a deep understanding of all production processes. Even at the training stage, students gain practical experience that will allow them to work effectively on both existing and new infrastructure facilities in the future,” emphasized the company's general director, Alexey Chudaev.

It is worth noting that earlier, a partnership agreement was signed between UrbanTech Service LLC and the Bor Governorate College, establishing an agreement on training personnel in the fields of “electromechanics” and “cable car and funicular maintenance technician.” The educational program combines theoretical training and practice at an operating facility, and graduates receive a state-standard certificate and priority employment rights.

Thus, a new professional niche with stable demand, a modern technological base, and career growth opportunities is being formed in the region. At the same time, the college is focused on training specialists not only for the Nizhny Novgorod region but also for other regions of Russia where similar infrastructure projects are being implemented or planned.

As noted by the chairman of the Legislative Assembly's budget and tax committee, member of the United Russia faction, Alexander Sharonov, practical training for students is an important step in consolidating the theoretical knowledge they have acquired during their studies.

“Nizhny Novgorod and Bor are connected by a unified transport system, and the cable car is one of the complex engineering facilities where passenger safety depends on highly qualified personnel. For its reliable operation, we need our local specialists who know the specifics of the facility and can ensure the safe passage of thousands of people. The issue of training qualified personnel is also included in the United Russia people's program. By preparing such personnel from the student bench, we invest in the stability and safety of the transport system in the Nizhny Novgorod region,” emphasized Alexander Sharonov.

It is worth recalling that starting in 2025, a national project “Youth and Children” was launched in Russia by order of President Vladimir Putin, which fulfills tasks previously outlined in the national projects “Education,” “Science and Universities.” The national project is aimed at supporting talented youth, including young specialists. The national project includes nine federal projects and programs: “Russia—a Land of Opportunities,” “We Are Together,” “Russia in the World,” “All the Best for Children,” “Leading Schools,” “Teachers and Mentors,” “Creating a Network of Modern Campuses,” “Universities for a Generation of Leaders,” “Professionalism.” NIA “Nizhny Novgorod” has channels on Telegram and MAX.
