      On May 9, 2026, at 13:45, Incidents: A 69-year-old man contacted the police in Nizhny Novgorod, who became a victim of fraud. The deputy director of one of the organizations lost a large sum of money while trying to buy a car online, the press service of the regional Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs reported. According to the victim, he found an advertisement for the sale of a car on one of the websites and contacted the seller by phone. They discussed the terms of the deal, and the man transferred 4,591,000 rubles as a prepayment to four accounts provided by the interlocutor. After the last transfer, the seller stopped responding, and the victim realized he had been deceived. A criminal case has been initiated for fraud under Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. The police are conducting an investigation to establish all the circumstances of the incident. Police recommend that citizens be vigilant and thoroughly check sellers before making a purchase. They advise reading reviews about the seller on different sites and refusing the deal if there is information about their questionable reputation. It is also important not to make purchases online if 100% prepayment is required. If the seller asks for a deposit or advance payment through anonymous payment systems, electronic money, or a bank transfer to a private individual's card, this may be a dangerous sign of fraud.
