May 10, 2026 11:32 Society A report on the progress of the investigation into information about possible fraudulent activities in the Nizhny Novgorod region will be presented to the Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia, Alexander Bastrykin. As reported by the press service of the agency, the reason for the investigation was publications on social networks about a possible violation of the rights of residents of Vyksa regarding the calculation of electricity charges. Allegedly, elderly people are being charged inflated bills for electricity consumed for communal needs. It is also claimed that these charges may have included debts from those who do not pay for utility services. In this regard, the investigative authorities of the Investigative Committee of Russia in the Nizhny Novgorod region are conducting an investigation based on signs of a crime as defined by Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation "Fraud." The head of the agency instructed the head of the regional investigative department, Airat Akhmetshin, to report on the progress of the investigation and the established circumstances. It was previously reported that Bastrykin was informed about a criminal case of negligence due to damage to a water pipe after landslides in the Kstovo district.
