A fatal accident involving an ATV has resulted in a criminal case in Nizhny Novgorod.

      On May 10, 2026, at 12:08, Incidents: A criminal case has been initiated in Nizhny Novgorod regarding a traffic accident that resulted in the death of a passenger on an ATV. This was reported by the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the region.

      Recall that on May 9, a 52-year-old driver of a "Lada Granta" was driving on Novokuznechikhinskaya Street. While making a left turn, he failed to yield to an ATV "H-wolf 1000" driven by a 26-year-old driver, who was traveling straight in the opposite direction.

      As a result of the collision, a 35-year-old passenger of the ATV died. The ATV driver was injured and hospitalized.

      A criminal case has been initiated under part 3 of article 264 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. The driver of the passenger car has been detained in accordance with article 91 of the Criminal Procedure Code of the Russian Federation.

      Police remind that when riding vehicles without a cabin, it is especially important to use protective gear. In such accidents, severe injuries often occur due to falls during rollovers or collisions with obstacles. Additionally, victims often cannot extricate themselves from under the vehicle due to their injuries. High speed and lack of experience also lead to tragedies.

      ATV drivers and passengers are advised to wear helmets, elbow and knee protection, or tight clothing, as well as ankle-supporting footwear. In many cases, a helmet could significantly reduce the severity of injuries.
