Parades at the homes of Nizhny Novgorod veterans are held for Victory Day.
May 6, 2026 17:07 Society In the Nizhny Novgorod region, in anticipation of Victory Day, solemn processions are being organized near the homes of participants in the Great Patriotic War. The event is part of the all-Russian project "Parade at the Veteran's Home." Festive greetings for the front-line soldiers are being prepared by activists of the regional branch of the "Volunteers of Victory" movement together with the military orchestra of the Volga region of the National Guard. The initiative is supported by the government of the Nizhny Novgorod region and the NROO "Youth Self-Government League." A veteran of the Special Military Operation, participant of the "Time of Heroes" program, Alexander Popenko, also joined the events. One of the first solemn marches took place in the courtyards of Ivan Andreevich Lyashkov and Vasily Afanasyevich Kuznetsov. They heard famous compositions from the war years - "Salute to Moscow," "On the Nameless Height," "Victory Day." Veterans were presented with flowers and commemorative gift sets.
Ivan Lyashkov was drafted into the Red Army in 1943. After the war, he served as the commander of the instrument platoon of the anti-aircraft artillery division, participated in operations in Hungary and Austria, and graduated from the Academy of the Soviet Army named after Marshal Govorov. He completed his service in 1975 with the rank of colonel. He was awarded the medal "For Combat Merit." "When you look at the young guys who come to congratulate us, you understand: it was all worth it. We fought so that they could live under a peaceful sky, study, build their lives. And the most important thing is that they remember," noted the veteran.
Vasily Kuznetsov was drafted in January 1943 and served in the Far East. In August 1945, he participated in battles against Japan as part of the 1st Far Eastern Front, traveling from the Greater Khingan to Harbin. He was awarded the Order of the Patriotic War II class and the medal "For Victory over Japan." After the war, he continued his service. Vasily Afanasyevich added that the attention and respect from contemporaries confirm that the feat of the generation of victors is preserved in the historical memory of the country. The events concluded with a drill performance by the students of the Maxim Nastin Center for Military-Patriotic Education. The young participants marched before the veterans in a solemn parade. The head of the NRO VOD "Volunteers of Victory," Maria Samodelkina, emphasized that it is important for the organization that veterans feel care and attention not only on festive days but also in everyday life. As part of the campaign, solemn processions are planned for ten veterans of the Great Patriotic War in the region. It was previously reported that 4,487 veterans of the Great Patriotic War remain in the Nizhny Novgorod region. NIA "Nizhny Novgorod" has channels on Telegram and MAX.
