      In Nizhny Novgorod, the number of blockages in the sewage networks has sharply increased. City services attribute this to improper waste disposal. Mayor Yuri Shalabaev published photos on his Telegram channel of waste extracted from pipes. Among them are household garbage and hygiene products that should not enter the sewage system. According to the mayor of Nizhny Novgorod, since the beginning of 2026, utility services have eliminated about 2,200 similar emergency situations. This figure is 26% higher than the same period last year and exceeds the level of 2024 by 35%. Every day, specialists go out to clear the networks from 10 to 30 times. They have to extract significant volumes of waste that clog the pipes and hinder the normal operation of the system. Yuri Shalabaev noted that resolving such issues requires significant resources. The time spent on eliminating blockages could be directed towards infrastructure upgrades and planned work. The mayor emphasized that reducing the number of emergencies can only be achieved with responsible waste disposal by residents. He urged not to throw construction waste and hygiene items into the sewage system.
