The number of Nizhny Novgorod residents living below the poverty line has decreased by almost half.

      May 5, 2026 17:26 Economy In the Nizhny Novgorod region, the number of residents whose monetary income remains below the subsistence minimum continues to decline. According to the results of 2025, this figure was 5.2% of the total population. This is evidenced by data from Nizhny Novgorod Statistics. A year earlier, the share of the population below the poverty line was at 5.6%. For comparison, in 2023 it was 7.2%, in 2022 it was 7.5%, and in 2021 it was 8.3%. Compared to 2017 (10%), the share of residents with incomes below the subsistence minimum has almost halved. In 2015, the figure was at 9.9%, in 2016 it was 9.8%, in 2018 and 2019 it was 9.5%, and in 2020 it was 9.4%. At the same time, the deficit of monetary income has also decreased. This indicator reflects the amount of funds that low-income residents lacked to reach the subsistence minimum level. In 2025, it was 0.3% of the total monetary income of the population. In 2024, the deficit was at 0.4%, in 2023 and 2022 it was 0.6%, and in 2021 it was 0.7%. Previously, it reached 0.9% in 2015, 2017, and 2020, 0.8% in 2016, 2018, and 2019, and in 2013 and 2014 it was 0.7%.
