In the first days of May, Nizhny Novgorod residents bought a record number of barbecues and grills.

As analysts from MegaFon discovered based on anonymized data, sales of barbecues and grills increased by almost 50% compared to the same period last year. At the same time, residents of the Nizhny Novgorod region prefer to spend their free time actively at their dachas: they have shown less interest in renting gazebos, while traffic to gardening forums in April increased by 20% year-on-year. The most active day for purchasing barbecues and grills was May 2, when the air temperature in the European and central parts of Russia exceeded 20 °C. The first days of May accounted for 35% of all purchases of cooking goods for the first four months of 2026. Among the most sought-after categories are accessories for grills and barbecues, skewers, as well as fire pits and stoves for cauldrons. At the same time, sales of gas grills increased by 156% year-on-year, and barbecues by 106%. Nizhny Novgorod residents have shown less interest in renting gazebos for barbecues: in April 2026, traffic to the corresponding services decreased by 3% compared to April 2025. At the same time, traffic to gardening forums increased by 20%. Sales of goods for dachas and gardens also surged: if demand increased by 65% in April, it rose by 101% in May. The highest purchasing activity also occurred on May 2 and 3. The most frequently purchased items were plants, seeds, and fertilizers for them. Meanwhile, in spring 2026, demand for swimming pools increased more than tenfold, for sauna and bath goods by four times, and for garden furniture by three times.
