Nizhny Novgorod residents were warned about a new fraud scheme before May 9.

May 4, 2026 10:50 Incidents Scammers have intensified their activities ahead of Victory Day. As TASS reported, the deputy head of the People's Front project "For Borrowers' Rights," expert of the "Moshilovka" platform, Alexandra Pozharskaya, stated that fraudsters pose as employees of government agencies and, under the pretext of holiday payments, attempt to obtain banking information.

Criminals disguise their actions as official notifications and play on the emotional significance of the holiday. They call veterans or their relatives, introducing themselves as employees of the Social Fund, the Ministry of Labor, or social protection agencies.

To receive the payment, it is necessary to "confirm identity," which means dictating a code from an SMS or providing bank card details.

Additionally, another scheme is used. Scammers promise to present a commemorative medal for Victory Day and offer to follow a link to supposedly verify the data for its receipt.

Pozharskaya emphasized that real payments do not require preliminary calls or the transmission of confirmation codes. Funds are automatically transferred to the veteran's card or issued through banks and post offices.

Earlier, it was reported that a pensioner from Dzerzhinsk transferred more than 8.5 million rubles to scammers. NIA "Nizhny Novgorod" has channels on Telegram and MAX.
