Almost 16.7 billion rubles of budget loans were written off in the Nizhny Novgorod region.
On May 4, 2026, at 11:31, Economy The Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation, Mikhail Mishustin, signed an order on May 4 during a meeting with deputy prime ministers to write off two-thirds of the debt on budget loans for 21 regions. The total amount of the write-off exceeds 114 billion rubles. Among the subjects is the Nizhny Novgorod region, which will have nearly 16.7 billion rubles written off. The decision is aimed at reducing the debt burden on regional budgets, creating more favorable conditions for the development of the economies of the subjects, and improving the quality of life for citizens. In addition to the Nizhny Novgorod region, the write-off will affect the republics of Karelia, Komi, Mordovia, Udmurtia, and Chuvashia, the Krasnodar, Perm, and Khabarovsk territories, as well as the Voronezh, Kaliningrad, Kemerovo, Magadan, Omsk, Penza, Pskov, Samara, Tomsk, and Yaroslavl regions, the Jewish Autonomous Region, and the Nenets Autonomous Okrug. The volume of the write-off is comparable to what these regions invested in the modernization of housing and communal services: replacing elevators, relocating people from emergency housing, and updating public transport. Investments in industrial support, the implementation of national projects and new investment projects, as well as city development programs in the Far East and Arctic zone were also taken into account. It was previously reported that Vladimir Putin supported the extension of the deadlines for repaying budget loans for the subjects. NIA "Nizhny Novgorod" has channels on Telegram and MAX.
