The proposals of the Nizhny Novgorod residents were supported at the meeting of the Intergovernmental Russian-Serbian Committee.
May 4, 2026 11:42 Politics The Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Nizhny Novgorod Region, Dmitry Starostin, participated in the 21st meeting of the Intergovernmental Russian-Serbian Committee on Trade, Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation. The region's proposals were included in the final protocol of the event. The Russian delegation was headed by the Minister of Economic Development, Maxim Reshetnikov. The co-chairman of the Intergovernmental Committee from the Serbian side is the Minister of International Economic Cooperation of Serbia, Nenad Popovic. During the meeting, Dmitry Starostin presented a report on the development of cooperation between the Nizhny Novgorod Region and the Republic of Serbia, outlining already implemented projects and new areas of interaction. "One of the significant achievements was the decision of the Serbian authorities to increase the quota for the import of oil and fat products. We consider it important to continue building new contacts for our producers, creating an even more favorable environment for business communication. It is important to participate more often in events on the territory of Serbia, to present goods, services, and developments—especially in the context of the upcoming 'EXPO-2027' in Belgrade. This course of our region finds absolute support from the co-chairs of the Intergovernmental Committee," noted Dmitry Starostin. The protocol of the meeting also included proposals from the Nizhny Novgorod Region for the development of tourism and business exchanges, strengthening partnerships between leading universities of the two countries. During the visit, there was also a meeting between Dmitry Starostin and the Minister of Information and Telecommunications of Serbia, Boris Bratina, which continued the agreements reached by the Governor of the Nizhny Novgorod Region, Gleb Nikitin, with the minister within the framework of CIPR-2025. The main topic was the steps for the development of digital and educational interaction. The parties noted progress in cooperation with the IT campus "NEIMARK." In early April 2026, a roadmap for cooperation between Nizhny Novgorod and Novi Sad was signed, as well as a partnership agreement between NNGU named after N.I. Lobachevsky and the University of Novi Sad. In addition, two specialized documents have already been signed in the digital sphere, and in the near future, two more agreements aimed at expanding opportunities for business, science, and humanitarian interaction are planned to be concluded. "It is gratifying that the Serbian delegation participated in CIPR and the Nizhny Novgorod Forum on Foreign Economic Activity; we are waiting for our partners at these important events this year. Serbia remains an important partner for the region. Regular contacts at the government level and work in the format of the Intergovernmental Committee allow us to promptly address issues that sometimes hinder the development of trade and mutual investments," emphasized Dmitry Starostin.
